About Us

AANNR conducts bi-monthly meetings at Cardiff RSL every second Tuesday of every second month at 10.00am. Members, associates, friends and guests are welcome. Members and guests are able to remain at the club following the meetings and enjoy a lovely lunch at the Eastern tiger Restaurant.

Membership may be paid directly through the Newcastle Permanent Building Society (see memberships). Our members with internet connections receive information (eg minutes and agendas) electronically and those without, receive information by Aust Post. All AANNR financial members receive as a membership benefit the quarterly Amputee Journal published by the NSW Association.

Peer Support

A number of AANNR members are involved in a programme endorsed by ENABLE called Peer Support. A request is made by either the hospital, doctors or a community agency and an experienced amputee is matched with a new amputee; a visit is undertaken by the volunteer, usually at a hospital. Telling your own story often gives the new amputee some insight and allows them to feel comfortable asking questions about coping in the future. While visiting the Peer Support volunteer, provides the new amputee with relevant information and contacts to assist them on their journey to lead, as much as possible, a normal life. Follow up visitation is undertaken by request of the new amputee. Volunteer Amputees often travel some distance to provide Peer Support, and although AANNR tries to provide some assistance to the travel costs, it is a token reimbursement as funds are slowly being depleted. Many volunteers decline to claim any reimbursement, carrying the cost of travel themselves and giving back to the community.
